Pocket Moon Privacy Policy

Effective August 1, 2026

Pocket Moon is built to know a lot about the moon and almost nothing about you. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs. We do not operate any servers, so we could not collect your data even if we wanted to. We don't want to.

Location

If you unlock premium features and grant location permission, Pocket Moon uses your location on your device to compute moonrise and moonset times, to point the compass arrows, and to find tide stations near you.

The only time your location leaves your phone: your approximate coordinates are sent to NOAA (the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, at tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) to find nearby tide stations and fetch tide predictions. That request goes directly from your phone to NOAA, a US government service. We never see it, and your location is never stored anywhere except on your device or linked to your identity.

Decline location permission and everything else still works. Moon phases are computed entirely on your device.

Purchases

The premium unlock is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Your unlock is tied to your Apple Account, which is how Restore Purchases brings it back on a new phone.

Notifications

Phase notifications are scheduled locally on your device. There is no push server and nothing is sent anywhere to make them work.

What stays on your device

Your theme choice, saved tide stations, cached tide predictions, and notification preference live in the app's local storage. Delete the app and they're gone.

Children

Pocket Moon does not collect personal information from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Given how little the app collects, don't expect much news.
